"My Hero Does Not Look Like Me"

Short Description:

A reflection of a childhood hero and when there were no Latino superheroes.

I Want Viewers to Take Away:

I hope that as the audiences see my childhood dilemma – the issue of identity mixed with the lack of representation of minorities in the media – they begin to observe and be aware of the identities that are created by the media. Even though there is a large population of Latinos in the United States, the media still shows limited Latino content on television and films.

Broader Impact Possibilities:

A broader impact that my digital story might have is in support for others who do not speak about their identity conflicts. I believe my story shows a conflict between being a Latino immigrant child and being a young boy in the United States. If my story could reach production companies then a possible change might occur in how they represent different culture identities. Production companies might see the potential economical success in changing these cultural identities, as new perceptions may lead to new viewers.
